About Fly.io
Fly.io runs your application as Firecracker micro-VMs, called Machines, in data centres around the world, so you can place apps and data close to users. You deploy with the flyctl CLI from a Dockerfile or a detected framework, and Fly handles TLS, anycast networking, private networking between apps, persistent volumes and autoscaling, including stopping Machines when idle and starting them again in under a second. Managed Postgres, object storage through Tigris and GPU Machines are also available. It is popular for Elixir and Phoenix apps, multiplayer and realtime services, and AI agent sandboxes. Pricing is pay-as-you-go with no monthly platform fee: Machines are billed by the second while running, storage and bandwidth are billed separately, and new users get a free trial. The control comes with more infrastructure concepts to learn than on Heroku-style platforms, and the CLI-first workflow suits developers who are comfortable with containers.
Best for: Developers who want apps running in many regions with per-second, VM-level control.
