About BrowserOS

BrowserOS is an open-source browser made for handing web chores to AI agents. Its current edition, BrowserOS neo, is meant to run as a second browser next to your usual one: you import your logins from Chrome, then connect a coding or work agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor over MCP, and the agent opens its own tabs to fill forms, read pages or work through inboxes while signed in as you. A dashboard on the new-tab page shows each running agent, several can work in parallel, and every session is saved locally so you can replay what happened. Browsing data, screenshots and replays stay on your machine rather than in a vendor cloud. The browser is free under the AGPL-3.0 licence, and you bring your own AI provider or agent. It runs on macOS, Windows and Linux. It suits developers and power users who already live in agent tools, more than people looking for a built-in chat sidebar.

Best for: Developers who want their own AI agents to drive a real, logged-in browser locally.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Free and open source under AGPL-3.0
  • Agents work in their own tabs, so your own browsing isn't interrupted
  • Sessions are recorded locally and can be replayed step by step
  • Works with any MCP-capable agent, including Claude Code, Codex and Cursor

Why people leave

  • Needs your own AI agent or provider keys to do anything agentic
  • Agents share your real logins; per-agent profile isolation is only on the roadmap
  • Several renames (BrowserClaw, neo) make docs and repo names confusing
