About Chewy
Chewy is an online retailer that sells only for pets: dog and cat food, litter, toys, beds, aquarium and reptile gear, horse and farm supplies, and prescription medications. Its best-known feature is Autoship, which repeats an order on a schedule you set and takes a discount off each delivery, so people rarely run out of food or flea treatment. Chewy also runs a pet pharmacy whose pharmacists check prescriptions with your vet, plus vet services: free chat with a vet tech, paid virtual vet visits and a growing number of in-person Chewy Vet Care clinics. Shopping is free, and an optional paid membership, Chewy+, adds free shipping on every order and extra rewards. It is aimed at US pet owners who want heavy, repeat purchases delivered instead of carried home, and it works on the web and in iOS and Android apps. Customers in Canada use a separate Chewy site.
Best for: US pet owners who want food, litter and meds delivered on a repeating schedule.
Pros and cons
What works
- Autoship repeats orders on your schedule with a discount on each one
- Pet pharmacy and vet chat in the same app as supplies
- Customer service by phone around the clock
Why people leave
- Only for pet products, so it won't replace a general store
- Free shipping on every order needs the paid Chewy+ membership
- Mainly serves the US, with Canada on a separate site
