About Elastic Observability

Elastic Observability is the monitoring side of the Elastic Stack, the company behind Elasticsearch and Kibana. It grew out of the popular ELK pattern for central log search and now adds infrastructure metrics, APM with OpenTelemetry support, real user monitoring, uptime and synthetic checks, and machine-learning anomaly detection, all stored and searched in Elasticsearch. Its main strength is search: free-text and structured queries over very large log volumes are fast and flexible. You can run it on Elastic Cloud, either as a serverless project billed by GB ingested and retained or as a hosted deployment sized by resources, or download and run Elasticsearch and Kibana yourself. Self-managing the stack at scale needs real Elasticsearch know-how, and the hosted pricing has several meters. The core is available under source-available and AGPL licences, with paid tiers unlocking advanced features.

Best for: Teams whose monitoring centres on searching large volumes of logs.
