About Honeycomb

Honeycomb was built around the idea that debugging distributed systems needs fast, open-ended queries over wide events rather than pre-built dashboards. You send traces and structured events, usually through OpenTelemetry, and can slice them by any field, including high-cardinality ones like user ID or build number, without worrying about extra cost per field. Features like BubbleUp highlight which attributes differ between slow and normal requests, and SLOs and triggers handle alerting. It is well loved by teams practising observability-driven development, but it is less of a traditional infrastructure monitoring tool: host metrics and log search are not its strongest areas. Pricing is based on event volume, not hosts or seats, with a free plan for small projects and paid plans that scale by events per month. It is a hosted web service with a data residency option in the EU.

Best for: Teams debugging microservices who want fast, exploratory queries over traces.
