About Linkwarden

Linkwarden is an open-source bookmark manager focused on keeping what you save. Each link can be stored as a full-page copy, screenshot and PDF, so it survives if the site changes or disappears, and you can read, highlight and annotate inside the app. Collections can be shared with friends or teammates who add their own links, which makes it handy for research groups and small teams. Optional AI tagging, full-text search and RSS feed subscriptions round it out, and there are iOS and Android apps plus browser extensions. You can self-host it for free under the AGPL licence, or pay for Linkwarden Cloud, a single per-user plan with a 14-day trial and a large link allowance. It exports your data at any time, and browser sync tools such as floccus can use it as a backend. It suits people worried about link rot and teams that build shared reading lists.

Best for: Teams and researchers who want shared collections with permanent copies of every page.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Preserves pages as full copies, screenshots and PDFs
  • Shared collections for teams and groups
  • Highlights and annotations on saved pages
  • Free to self-host, simple paid cloud plan

Why people leave

  • Cloud plan has no free tier, only a trial
  • Page archiving uses noticeable storage when self-hosted
  • Reading view is less refined than dedicated read-later apps
