About MEGA

MEGA is a cloud storage service that encrypts files on your device before upload, so only you and the people you share keys with can read them. It has been operating since 2013 and now bundles more than storage: encrypted chat and video calls, a password manager (MEGA Pass), a VPN and S4 object storage. The desktop app MEGAsync handles two-way sync and backups, and there are apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android plus a browser extension and command-line tools. Its client source code is published for review. There is a free plan with transfer limits, Pro plans priced in euros up to very large capacities, a pay-as-you-go Pro Flexi plan and a Business plan for three or more users. The main complaints are transfer quotas on free accounts, occasional slow downloads, and a reputation that stems from its founder's earlier, unrelated file-locker service.

Best for: People who want large, encrypted storage with apps on every platform.
