About Minitab Statistical Software

Minitab is a statistics package built around menus and dialog boxes rather than code, and it has long been a standard tool in quality engineering, Lean Six Sigma training and manufacturing. It covers the analyses those teams use most: control charts, capability analysis, measurement system (gage) studies, design of experiments, regression, ANOVA, reliability and time series. A predictive analytics module adds tree-based machine learning such as CART and random forests, and it can call R or Python. The desktop app runs on Windows only; a browser version (Minitab Web) covers Mac and other systems. Licences are sold as subscriptions, with pricing given on request, and a free trial is available. The company behind it was co-founded more than 50 years ago and now sells a wider suite of quality and data tools. It fits engineers and analysts who want guided, reproducible statistics without programming; researchers who script analyses usually prefer R, Stata or Python.

Best for: Quality engineers and Six Sigma teams who want point-and-click statistics and control charts.
