About Omni
Omni is a hosted business intelligence platform built around a shared semantic model: data teams define metrics, joins and business logic once, and everyone else explores on top of it. Users can work through a point-and-click field picker, write raw SQL, use Excel-style formulas in a workbook view, or ask questions in an AI chat that draws on the same model. Changes made during exploration can be promoted back into the shared model, and it integrates both ways with dbt and with Git. Omni queries data in place, with native connections to Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, Postgres and others, and caches results for speed. Dashboards can be embedded in other products, and its MCP server and APIs let tools such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor query governed data. Pricing isn't published; it is sold through demos with a free trial. It suits data teams who liked Looker's modelling approach but want a faster, more flexible interface for business users.
Best for: Data teams that want governed metrics plus SQL, spreadsheet and AI exploration in one tool.
Pros and cons
What works
- One semantic model serves dashboards, spreadsheets, SQL and AI chat
- Two-way dbt integration and Git version control for the model
- Spreadsheet formulas let Excel users build metrics without SQL
- MCP server and APIs expose governed data to AI tools
Why people leave
- No public pricing; you have to go through sales
- Cloud only, with no self-hosted version
- Needs a cloud data warehouse or database to query
