About Plausible Analytics

Plausible is a simple, privacy-friendly web analytics tool built by a small, bootstrapped team in the EU. It shows all the key numbers on a single dashboard: visitors, pageviews, bounce rate, visit duration, top pages, sources, locations and devices, plus goals, custom events, funnels, ecommerce revenue and Search Console keywords. Its script is tiny, it uses no cookies and collects no personal data, so most sites can use it without a consent banner. The managed cloud service is hosted in the EU on European-owned infrastructure and is priced by monthly pageviews after a 30-day free trial with no credit card. The same code is released as Plausible Community Edition, a free AGPL-licensed version you can self-host, though some features arrive in the cloud first. The trade-offs are fewer advanced analysis tools than Google Analytics or Matomo, no user-level journeys, and no permanent free plan on the hosted version. It runs in the browser.

Best for: Sites that want clear, privacy-first traffic stats without a consent banner.

Pros and cons

  • Open source, with a free self-hosted edition

Why people leave

  • No free plan on the hosted service
  • Less depth than GA4 or Matomo for analysts
  • Some features land in the cloud before the self-hosted edition
