Pocket has been discontinued. Mozilla shut Pocket down in 2025, retiring the web, mobile and macOS apps and the browser extensions.
About Pocket
Pocket was one of the best-known read-it-later services. It started life as Read It Later, was bought by Mozilla in 2017, and let people save articles, videos and web pages from a browser extension or share sheet, then read them later in a clean, ad-free view on the web, phones and Macs. It also tagged saved items, offered text-to-speech, and powered the recommended stories on Firefox's new tab page. A free tier covered most saving and reading, while Pocket Premium added a permanent library, full-text search and suggested tags. Mozilla has since phased Pocket out entirely, including the web, Android, iOS and macOS apps and the browser extensions, and now points people to Firefox's own tab groups and bookmarks instead. It is listed here because many former users are still choosing a replacement: Instapaper and Readwise Reader are the closest hosted matches, and wallabag or Readeck suit people who would rather keep their archive on their own server.
Best for: Former Pocket users looking for a replacement read-later app.
