About Repetier-Host
Repetier-Host is a long-running free host program for FDM 3D printers. You place, scale and duplicate models on a virtual print bed, slice them with one of the bundled engines (Slic3r, PrusaSlicer, CuraEngine or Skeinforge) or any external slicer, preview the toolpaths layer by layer, and then send the job straight to the printer over USB or a network connection. It handles printers with many extruders and shows each filament in its own colour in the preview. A companion Repetier-Server, included in the installer, lets you watch and control printers from a browser, and a phone app sends status notifications. It works with most common FDM printers rather than one brand. The Windows and Linux versions are current at 2.3.x, while the Mac build is an older 1.2 release, so Mac users get a dated experience. It suits hobbyists running older or DIY printers who want one tool for slicing and direct control.
Best for: Owners of DIY or older FDM printers who want slicing and direct USB printing in one free app.

Pros and cons
What works
- Free, and works with almost any FDM printer instead of a single brand
- Bundles several slicing engines and accepts any external slicer
- Handles up to 16 extruders with per-filament colours in the preview
- Includes Repetier-Server for browser-based remote control
Why people leave
- Mac version is stuck on an old 1.2 release
- Interface feels dated next to modern slicers like OrcaSlicer
- Linux tarball needs the Mono framework installed
