About SpareRoom

SpareRoom is a listings site for shared living rather than whole homes. People with a room to fill post a room ad, people looking post a room-wanted ad, and both sides search by area, budget and preferences, then message each other and arrange viewings. In London you can also search by commute time, tube line or zone, and a buddy-up feature lets people team up to rent a whole place together. Ads are checked by a moderation team. Posting and searching are free; paid upgrades bump an ad up the results or give early access to new listings, which matters in busy cities where free users can wait days to contact some ads. It started in the UK, where it is the best-known flatshare site, and also runs a US version covering New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and other big cities. It works in the browser and through iOS and Android apps.

Best for: Renters and landlords in the UK or big US cities looking for a room or a flatmate.
