About Surge
Surge is a minimal static hosting service built around a single command. You install the CLI with npm, run it in a folder of HTML, CSS and JavaScript files, and the site is published to a surge.sh subdomain or your own custom domain within seconds. The free tier includes unlimited projects, custom domains, managed SSL and a limit on publishes per day, which is plenty for prototypes, demos, hackathon projects and simple sites. Surge Professional adds a monthly fee for features such as custom SSL certificates, cross-origin resource sharing, password protection and redirects. There is no build system, Git integration, dashboard or serverless functions: you build the site yourself and upload the output, though it is easy to call from CI scripts. Development is slow and the service has changed little for years, so it is best treated as a quick publishing tool rather than a platform for production apps.
Best for: Developers who want to publish a static folder from the terminal in seconds.
