About Sweatcoin
Sweatcoin is a free iPhone and Android app that counts your outdoor steps and converts them into its own in-app currency, sweatcoins. You can spend the balance on products, digital subscriptions, travel vouchers and some crypto offers in its marketplace, or donate to charity challenges. Around that it adds basic movement statistics, badges and group challenges. The company, Sweatco Ltd in London, says its algorithm filters out shaking and other fake steps, that it does not sell location data, and that a study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found users walked about 20 percent more. It also partners with employers, insurers and public bodies such as the NHS. The catch is that the rewards are modest and earning is slow, and it is not a workout tracker: there's no GPS route recording, heart-rate analysis or training plans.
Best for: Walkers who want a small extra nudge to move more, with rewards attached.
