About VictoriaMetrics

VictoriaMetrics is an open-source time series database often used as long-term storage for Prometheus or as a full replacement for it. It accepts Prometheus remote write, scrapes targets itself with vmagent, and answers queries in MetricsQL, a superset of PromQL, so Grafana dashboards and alert rules usually work unchanged. Its main selling point is efficiency: it typically uses much less memory and disk than Prometheus or other backends for the same data, and it scales from a single binary to a clustered deployment. The company has extended the stack with VictoriaLogs for logs and VictoriaTraces for traces, plus vmalert for alerting. The core is Apache 2.0 licensed and free to self-host; an enterprise edition adds features such as downsampling and multi-tenant controls, and VictoriaMetrics Cloud offers it as a managed service with a free trial. It runs on Linux, macOS, Windows and Kubernetes.

Best for: Teams outgrowing Prometheus who want cheaper long-term metrics storage.
