About Vonage
Vonage, now part of Ericsson, sells two kinds of product. For developers, the Vonage API platform (formerly Nexmo) provides programmable SMS, voice, video, WhatsApp and RCS messaging, two-factor verification and number lookup, with server SDKs, a CLI and OpenAPI specifications. Newer network APIs use mobile operator data for fraud checks and silent authentication. For businesses, Vonage offers a cloud phone system with desktop and mobile apps and a contact-centre service that integrates with Salesforce, Microsoft Teams and ServiceNow. The APIs are pay-as-you-go: new accounts get some free credit, then each message, minute or request is charged at per-country rates, while the phone and contact-centre plans are per-user subscriptions. Compared with Twilio, Vonage is often chosen for its video API (the former TokBox) and for pricing; compared with regional players such as Exotel or MSG91, it has broader global coverage but less local focus. It is a cloud service used through its dashboard and APIs.
Best for: Developers adding SMS, voice, video or 2FA to apps who want an alternative to Twilio.
