About Ona
Ona is the company and product previously known as Gitpod, the cloud development environment service. In 2025 it shifted from browser-based dev environments to running AI software agents: each agent gets a full, reproducible cloud environment with the team's tools, network access and permissions, works through a task in the background and returns a pull request. Automations let fleets of agents run on pull requests, schedules or webhooks for jobs like CVE fixes, code migrations, CI failure summaries and code review. Enterprises can run it in Ona's cloud or inside their own AWS or GCP account, with audit trails, scoped credentials and kernel-level policy controls. It can also govern other agents such as OpenAI Codex. OpenAI agreed to acquire Ona in June 2026 and the deal closed in August; the site now says new customer signup is closed, so newcomers should look at the alternatives below. Pricing was sales-led.
Best for: Existing Ona or Gitpod enterprise customers running background agents in their own cloud.
