About Phantom

Phantom started as the most popular wallet for the Solana blockchain and has grown into a multi-chain self-custody wallet that also handles Ethereum, Bitcoin and several other networks. You hold your own keys, so Phantom cannot move or freeze your funds, and you can pair it with a Ledger hardware wallet for extra safety. The app lets you buy, swap and send tokens, view NFTs, connect to decentralised apps, and it now adds trading features such as perpetual futures, prediction markets and a desktop trading terminal. Built-in scam detection warns about suspicious transactions before you sign them. In the US it also offers a prepaid Visa debit card for spending crypto balances. The wallet is free to download; Phantom earns money from fees on swaps and trades made inside the app. It runs as a browser extension for Chrome, Brave and Edge and as an iOS and Android app. It suits people active in the Solana ecosystem who want one wallet that also covers other chains.

Best for: Solana users who want a polished self-custody wallet that also covers Ethereum and Bitcoin.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Self-custodial: only you control the keys
  • Clean app with swaps, NFTs and dapp connections in one place
  • Ledger hardware wallet support
  • Scam warnings before you sign risky transactions

Why people leave

  • Closed source, unlike wallets such as Rabby or Sparrow
  • In-app swaps and trades carry fees on top of network costs
  • Trading features like perps and prediction markets add risk and clutter for simple holders
