About Rainbow

Rainbow started as a friendly Ethereum wallet and has grown into a self-custody trading app. You keep your own keys, and from the same app you can buy and swap tokens, trade prediction markets powered by Polymarket, and open leveraged perpetual futures on crypto, stock indexes and commodities through Hyperliquid. Live prices and charts are built in, and trades earn the project's own reward token. It runs on iPhone and Android and as a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Safari and Arc, so the same wallet can connect to web3 apps on desktop. The app's code is published on GitHub. The wallet itself is free to download; trading carries fees, and an optional Rainbow Black tier offers bigger rewards and instant deposits. Its team also makes RainbowKit, a widely used wallet-connection kit for developers. It suits Ethereum users who want a polished wallet with trading in one place; people who just want to store coins safely may find the leverage and rewards features distracting.

Best for: Ethereum users who want a self-custody wallet with swaps and trading built in.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Self-custody: your keys stay with you
  • Same wallet on mobile and as a browser extension for most browsers
  • Swaps, prediction markets and perps without leaving the app
  • App source code is GPL-3.0 licensed on GitHub

Why people leave

  • Focus has shifted toward trading and leverage, which adds risk and clutter
  • Built around Ethereum and EVM chains rather than Bitcoin
  • Rewards are paid in the project's own token
