About Scalapay
Scalapay is a buy now, pay later service based in Milan and used mainly in Italy and other European countries, including France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland. Shoppers pick Scalapay at checkout in a partner store, create an account with a debit or credit card, receive the order straight away and pay the cost in three monthly instalments without interest. It also works in physical shops: the iOS and Android app generates a barcode that the shopper shows at the till. The app doubles as a shopping directory with offers from partner brands, with a strong lean towards fashion, beauty and travel. For shoppers it is free to use as long as payments are made on time; merchants pay a fee per transaction in exchange for higher basket sizes and taking on the credit risk. It is a regional alternative to Klarna and Clearpay for people shopping with Italian and other European retailers.
Best for: Shoppers in Italy and nearby European countries who want to split purchases into three payments.
