About Silverfort
Silverfort is an identity security platform founded in 2016 that sits at the authentication layer, mainly by integrating with Active Directory and cloud identity providers, rather than requiring agents or proxies on each server. That lets it put multi-factor authentication and access policies in front of systems that usually can't support MFA, such as command-line tools, legacy apps, file shares and OT networks. Other modules discover and protect service accounts, apply privileged-access controls without a password vault, detect identity threats, and block suspicious authentication to slow ransomware and lateral movement. It is aimed at mid-size and large organisations with a lot of on-prem Active Directory, and is often bought to meet cyber-insurance MFA requirements. Pricing is quote-based through sales and partners; there is no free plan.
Best for: Organisations with on-prem Active Directory that need MFA on legacy and command-line access.
Pros and cons
What works
- Extends MFA to legacy systems, command-line tools and OT without app changes
- No agents or proxies on each protected server
- Discovers and locks down service accounts
Why people leave
- Built around Active Directory, so less useful for cloud-only companies
- Not a full IGA suite for access certifications and lifecycle
- No public pricing
