About AutoSleep

AutoSleep is an iPhone and Apple Watch app from the Australian developer Tantsissa that tracks sleep without you pressing anything. You wear the watch to bed, and in the morning the app turns heart rate, movement and other Apple Health data into a sleep score, time asleep, deep sleep estimates and a running sleep bank that shows how much rest you owe yourself. It also covers readiness, blood oxygen and respiration readings, snore intensity via a sister app, a smart alarm and many widgets and watch complications. The app has been around for about ten years and is aimed at Apple Watch owners who want detail without a monthly fee. It is sold as a one-off purchase rather than a subscription, and the developer says all data stays on the device with no analytics or ads. The downside is that it only works in Apple's ecosystem, and the dense screens of rings and numbers take some time to learn.

Best for: Apple Watch owners who want detailed, private sleep tracking without paying a subscription.
