About Paysend

Paysend is a cross-border payments company based in Edinburgh that started out with card-to-card transfers and now sends money to more than 170 countries. From the mobile app or website you pick a destination, see the exchange rate and fee before confirming, and the recipient gets the money in a bank account, on a card, in an e-wallet or as cash pickup, depending on the route. You can also request money and track each transfer as it moves. Alongside the consumer app, Paysend sells its payment network to businesses through an API and embedded products. It suits migrants and expats sending regular amounts home, particularly to Eastern Europe, Central Asia and parts of Latin America and Asia, where its routes are strongest. There is no subscription: you pay a fee and an exchange-rate margin on each transfer, and those vary by corridor. Paysend Plc is regulated by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority as an e-money institution.

Best for: People sending money home who want card, wallet or cash payout options in one app.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Several payout methods: bank account, card, e-wallet or cash, depending on the destination
  • Rate and fee are shown before you confirm each transfer
  • Wide reach of 170+ destination countries

Why people leave

  • Fees and exchange margins vary by corridor, so it is not always the cheapest option
  • No multi-currency balance to hold money like Wise or Revolut offer
  • Delivery times depend on route and compliance checks, so 'fast' is not guaranteed
