About Sendwave
Sendwave is a remittance app started in 2014 and now part of Zepz, the group that also runs WorldRemit. It is built for people in the US, Canada, the UK and the EU who send money to family abroad, with a strong focus on African countries such as Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Senegal, plus routes to Asia and Latin America. You link a debit card, verify your identity and send from your phone, with payout to mobile money wallets, bank accounts or cash depending on the country. Support is available by chat around the clock. A newer Sendwave Wallet for US and UK senders adds better rates or cashback and a prepaid Visa card. There is no subscription; costs come from the exchange margin and any fee on each transfer, which vary by corridor. It is a phone-only service, so it suits people who want quick, small regular transfers rather than large bank wires.
Best for: Diaspora senders in the US, UK, Canada or EU paying family in Africa by mobile money.
Pros and cons
What works
- Strong coverage of African mobile money and bank routes
- Quick setup: link a debit card and send from the app
- 24/7 chat support
Why people leave
- Sending is limited to a handful of countries (US, Canada, UK, EU)
- Mobile-first, with no full web app for sending
- Wallet extras like cashback are only for US and UK senders
