About TransferGo
TransferGo is a London-based money transfer service, founded in 2012, built mainly for migrants sending money between Europe and their home countries. It now pays out to more than 160 countries, by bank transfer, card, e-wallet or cash depending on the route. Its original trick was holding local bank accounts in each country, so both ends of a transfer are cheap domestic payments. The app has grown into a light banking product: you can hold and exchange several currencies, and spend with the GoCard, a virtual card that is free on sign-up, with an optional physical card for a one-off fee. There is also a business account for paying suppliers and staff abroad. There is no subscription; each transfer has a fee and an exchange margin that depend on the corridor and speed you choose. It runs on iOS, Android, Huawei devices and the web, and is regulated in the UK and Lithuania.
Best for: People in Europe and the UK sending money home who also want a multi-currency card.

Pros and cons
What works
- Covers 160+ countries, with strong corridors from the UK and EU
- Free virtual GoCard plus a multi-currency balance in the same app
- Regulated by the UK FCA and the Bank of Lithuania
Why people leave
- Physical card has a one-off fee, and ATM use beyond the monthly allowance costs extra
- Sending is mainly from Europe and the UK, so it is less useful for US-based senders
- Fees and rates vary by corridor and speed, so costs need checking per transfer
