About Remember The Milk

Remember The Milk has been around since 2005 and remains a solid, no-nonsense task manager. Tasks get due dates, priorities, tags, locations and repeats, and Smart Lists save complex searches as live lists. Quick entry understands shorthand for dates, tags and lists. The free plan covers the core list features and sync across devices; Pro, a single yearly subscription, adds subtasks, unlimited sharing, tag colours, advanced sorting, file attachments from Dropbox or Google Drive, mobile reminders, Outlook sync, offline use of the web app and MilkScript, a scripting tool for automating your lists. There are also integrations with IFTTT and Zapier and a newer AI connector. Native apps run on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, iPad, Android and Apple Watch, plus the web. The interface looks plainer than newer apps and putting subtasks and reminders behind Pro feels dated, but its search-based lists are powerful.

Best for: People who like search-driven smart lists and want native apps including Linux.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Powerful Smart Lists built from saved searches
  • Native apps on Mac, Windows, Linux and mobile
  • MilkScript automation and Outlook sync on Pro

Why people leave

  • Subtasks and mobile reminders require Pro
  • Interface feels dated next to newer apps
  • Fewer planning views than TickTick or Todoist
