About WakaTime

WakaTime tracks programming activity automatically through open-source plugins for dozens of editors, IDEs and terminals, including VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Vim and Xcode. It records time per project, language, branch, file and editor, and turns that into dashboards, weekly email reports, goals and public or private leaderboards. Newer features focus on AI-assisted coding, showing how much code comes from AI tools, which models are used and what they cost, broken down per developer. Teams can compare activity across members and projects. The free plan keeps a week of dashboard history with unlimited projects; Basic and Premium extend history, add AI insights, private leaderboards and more, and teams pay per developer. The dashboard is web-based and works with plugins on Windows, Mac and Linux. It measures time spent in editors, not total work time, so meetings, design and research are mostly invisible, and some developers dislike activity metrics being used for performance reviews.

Best for: Developers who want automatic stats on coding time and AI usage across editors.
