About Customer.io

Customer.io is a messaging platform for software and subscription companies that want to send messages based on what users do in their product. You send it events and attributes from your app through its API, SDKs or a data pipeline, then build journeys that trigger email, push notifications, SMS, in-app messages and webhooks from those events. Segments update in real time, and it handles both marketing broadcasts and transactional messages. A data pipelines product can also route customer data to other tools, and newer AI features help build campaigns and analyse results. Pricing starts with an Essentials plan per month based on profiles, then a much more expensive Premium tier and custom Enterprise contracts; startups that qualify can get a year free. It is overkill for a simple newsletter and needs developer time to instrument events properly. For product-led companies, it gives far more control than a list-based email tool.
