About GrowthBook

GrowthBook is an open-source platform for feature flags and experimentation that analyses results on the data you already have. Instead of sending events to GrowthBook, you connect your warehouse or analytics source, such as BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, ClickHouse or Mixpanel, and it runs the statistics there, with Bayesian and frequentist engines, CUPED and sequential testing. Feature flags come with lightweight SDKs for most languages, and newer features include a visual editor, multi-arm bandits, safe rollouts and product analytics dashboards. The self-hosted version runs as a single Docker image with MongoDB and has the same features as the cloud. The cloud Starter plan is free for a small team, Pro is priced per seat, and Enterprise is custom. It suits engineering and data teams who want control and low cost; marketers looking for a polished visual testing tool may find it too technical.

Best for: Engineering and data teams that want experiments on their own warehouse data.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Open source and fully self-hostable
  • Runs analysis on your existing warehouse
  • Unlimited flags, experiments and traffic even on free plan

Why people leave

  • Needs a data warehouse or analytics source to shine
  • Free cloud plan limited to 3 users
  • Less marketer-friendly than visual testing tools
