About Microsoft Copilot Studio
Copilot Studio is Microsoft's tool for building AI agents and conversational bots without writing much code. It grew out of Power Virtual Agents and now sits inside the Power Platform, so agents can use Power Platform connectors, Dataverse and Azure AI services to read company data and take actions. You can describe an agent in plain language and refine it, or design structured conversation topics on a graphical canvas for predictable flows. Agents can be published inside Microsoft 365 and Teams, or, with a standalone plan, to websites, mobile apps and social channels, and they can hand a conversation to a human when stuck. It suits organisations already standardised on Microsoft 365 and Azure that want IT-governed bots for internal help desks or customer service. Pricing is usage-based on Copilot Credits, either prepaid or pay-as-you-go, and it requires an Azure subscription; some agent building is included with Microsoft 365 Copilot licences. It runs in the browser.
Best for: Microsoft 365 and Azure organisations building governed internal or customer-facing AI agents.

Pros and cons
What works
- Deep tie-in with Teams, Microsoft 365, Dataverse and Power Platform connectors
- Mix of natural-language agent building and rule-based conversation topics
- Admin and governance through the Power Platform admin center
Why people leave
- Requires an Azure subscription and credit-based billing that is hard to predict
- Licensing across Microsoft 365 Copilot and standalone plans is confusing
- Much less appealing outside the Microsoft ecosystem
